Building a Functional Home Office Space in Your New Home

Home offices are an important aspect of a new home or custom home build, particularly in the climate we are living in.

There are some important things to consider if you are going to include a home office space in your new home design.

Ventilation of the room is important. In the space we are touring in this video, the owners have chosen full height louvre windows, which will provide excellent airflow through the home office.

A second, or external entry door is a consideration if you will be having staff members or people outside of the family home gaining access to the office.

Separating the living and office space in your home will ensure you don’t feel like you’re always at work. In this video we showcase a sliding barn door that separates this office from the living area of the main home.

The owners have also gone for a kitchenette, to further ensure work hours are kept in this section of the home. This kitchenette has space for a microwave, and includes a tap and sink, good sized bench space and plenty of storage underneath the bench and overhead cabinetry.

Ceilings are an interesting consideration when building a home office. A perforated ceiling can absorb sound and ensure your working space doesn’t echo too much when there are multiple people on the phone. Air conditioning is a popular choice in all homes, but in offices it is a really nice way to ensure the workspace is comfortable all year round.

As you can see there is a lot to consider when designing an office space as part of your new home. We are here to help you with ideas and answer any questions you may have about planning for your new home build.
