I’ve been building homes for over 20 years, and in that time, I’ve had hundreds of first conversations with people who are seriously considering building. And almost every single one of them comes in carrying the same fears.
Not because they’ve done anything wrong. But because building a home is the biggest financial decision most people will ever make, and the industry, let’s be honest, hasn’t always done a great job of making people feel safe in that process.
So I want to address the three fears I hear most often, head-on. And I’m going to let a couple of our clients help me do it.
Fear #1: The Price Will Blow Out
This is the big one. Almost everyone who walks through our door has heard a story, a friend, a family member, a colleague, who signed a contract for one number and ended up paying something very different by the time they got their keys.
It’s one of the most common and most damaging experiences in the building industry, and it’s completely understandable that people are bracing for it before they’ve even started.
The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) actually provides strong protections for homeowners around building contracts, and it’s worth familiarising yourself with your rights before you sign anything with any builder.

Our quoting process is detailed. Not a rough ballpark, not a figure pulled together to get you over the line. By the time you’re sitting in front of a building contract with us, you know what you’re getting and at what price. Any variation, anything that changes after the contract is signed, goes through a formal variations process. There are no surprises buried in the fine print. No phone calls three months into the build telling you the price has changed.

Fear #2: You’ll Be Left in the Dark
The second fear I hear constantly is this: “I’m going to sign a contract, hand over my deposit, and then not hear anything for months.”
It’s not an unfounded fear. A lot of builders, particularly the larger volume builders running dozens of projects at once, simply don’t have the bandwidth to keep every client informed. You end up chasing updates, wondering what’s happening on your site, and feeling like you’re an afterthought.

Every client gets access to our online portal from the moment their contract is signed. Weekly updates go in, what’s been done, what’s coming next, and photos from the site so you can actually see the progress with your own eyes. You can send messages through the portal at any time and our office and site manager both have access, so questions get answered quickly.

The third fear is perhaps the most personal one. You’ve spent months designing this home. You’ve made hundreds of decisions. You’ve imagined what it’s going to look and feel like when it’s finished. And you’re terrified that the reality won’t live up to what you had in your head.
