We just handed over one of my favourite recent builds, and I wanted to take a moment to walk you through it properly — because this one is a great example of what’s possible when you start with a solid design and let the process do the work.
This is the Fernbrook, one of the pre-designed plans we have up on our website. And if you’ve been sitting on a block of land on acreage, wondering what to build and where to even start, this one’s worth a good look.

What Is the Fernbrook Design?
The Fernbrook is one of our flagship acreage designs. It’s a four-bedroom home with 2.5 bathrooms and a double garage, but the numbers alone don’t do it justice.
What makes this design stand out is how it’s been thought through from a living perspective. You’ve got a dedicated home office, a media room, and a master suite that sits privately away from the rest of the home. For families, for professionals working from home, or for anyone who just wants their bedroom to feel like a proper retreat — that separation matters more than people realise until they’re actually living in it.
The facade on this one is the Scandi style, which I personally love for acreage. It’s clean, modern, and it sits beautifully in a natural landscape. Wide rooflines, strong lines, nothing fussy. It looks like it belongs there — and that’s exactly what you want when you’ve got space around you.
Why Pre-Designed Works So Well for Acreage Builds
I get asked a lot: “Should I go custom or use a pre-designed plan?”
Honestly, it depends on your situation. But here’s what I tell people who are building on acreage for the first time — a pre-designed plan like the Fernbrook takes a huge amount of the guesswork off your plate.
The design has already been developed, refined, and built. The floorplan works. The proportions work. The inclusions have been pre-selected to give you a cohesive, high-quality finish without you having to make hundreds of decisions on things you’ve never had to think about before.
That doesn’t mean you’re locked in, either. If you want to tweak it — change a room, adjust a feature, swap something out to suit your block — we can absolutely work through that with you. Custom homes are something we do all the time. But the pre-designed plan gives you a brilliant starting point, and for a lot of people, it’s exactly what they need to feel confident moving forward.

Building on Acreage: A Few Things Worth Knowing
Acreage builds come with a different set of considerations compared to standard suburban blocks, and it’s worth being upfront about that.
Site access, fall of the land, where services are located, orientation to capture breezes and views — all of these things need to be factored into how you position and design the home. The Fernbrook design has been developed with exactly this kind of block in mind, which is part of why it works so well out here.
If you’ve got a slope, an irregular shape, or specific orientation requirements on your block, that’s not a problem — it’s just a conversation we need to have early. Getting that right at the design and estimate stage means no surprises later.
